Hello!
I appreciate this mailing list, I did an advanced Google search of the form

Trident Cyberblade site:Xfree86.org

and picked up a lot of useful letters from here. Alan, thank you especially for your
letters.
I'm not able to get X Windows to run right. I have a Sony Vaio F630 laptop which
I purchased new in December 2000. Sony provides no information about the monitor
except that it's a XGA 13.1 inch TFT that's meant to work at 1024x768. My video card
is a Trident Cyberblade/i7. I've installed RedHat 7.2 with XFree86 4.1.0-3
X Windows starts up very nicely, the display is beautiful. However, as soon as I
try to do anything, windows and start disappearing, windows and icons may never show
up, the screen may lock, or it may all disappear and take me to the Gnome log on
screen.
What can I do? There seem to be people out there who've gotten this to work, but
many others who haven't. Here's what I enter when I use Xconfigurator:
     It finds:
PCI Entry: Trident Microsystems | Cyberblade/i7d
     Xserver XF86_SVGA
     XFree4 driver (default)
     And I enter:
Monitor: Generic High Frequency SVGA 1024x768 @ 70Hz
I'm not sure what to enter for the video memory, as the chip uses the computer's
memory, either 2 or 4 or 8 MB, I guess its variable. This seems to get commented out,
anyways.
I'm curious why the "trident" driver doesn't appear.
That the videocard is supported is written at
http://www.tridentmicro.com/videographics/cyberblade_i7/index.html "software support
for CyberBlade i7 is complete with certified drivers for Windows Me, Windows 98,
Windows 2000, OpenGL and Linux". and also at
http://www.xfree86.org/3.3.6/trident1.html
What's strange is that if I try to use a more humble setting, then the test
screen doesn't show anything at all.
Judging from the letters, it seems that it may depend on the particular version
of XFree86 whether it will work. My impression is that 4.0.1 doesn't work, 4.0.3
works, and 4.1.0 can be made to work if you insert mode lines from 3.3.6 (see
http://boreal321.com/vmg/sony_vaio_pcg-f630.html by vmg) I tried to insert the lines
'Driver "trident"' and 'VideoRam 8192' but then I get an error that Driver is an
Unknown device section keyword
     I hope you can help!
        Andrius
