[Newbie]XFree86 4.2 doesn't seem to work

I installed XFree86 4.2 from the binaries, on FreeBSD 4.4, following the instructions provided in "Installation Details for XFree86[tm] 4.2.0".   My graphics accelerator is a Leadtek WinFast GeForce2 MX.   I tried to run "XFree86 -configure" to generate a configuration "XF86Config" file but the computer automatically resets without generating the configuration file.   Then I tried to run "xf86config", I answered to all the questions, the configuration file was generated, then I tried to test the XServer running "startX" but again the computer resets.   Since I'm a newbie not only to XFree86 but also to FreeBSD, maybe that there's some other configuration that has to be made prior to installing or running XFree86 that I haven't made yet.   For example the device node for the video card has to be created or the XFree86 installations takes care of doing that?     Can you help me?   Do you know where I can find some tutorials about that topic?
