For those who are using Solaris 8 on laptop with ATI Mobility M/P video
chip,

After trying install XFree86 in my Solaris 8 and failed several times, I
finally found this package. It works perfectly on my system but slow. It is
ok. I feel good at this stage as long as it works.

Don't be a fool installing XFree86 manually like me... :-)

Subject: [Newbie]Solaris 8 CDE XFree86 : The answers to my prayers

Hi,

I'm not a gaming person, just someone with Solaris8 and an unsupported video
card. Learned this XFree86 stuff on the fly and was getting now where.
Particulary since most people didn't understand what I was trying to do.....
just get my machine to boot up into CDE in color and 1024x768:>

Anyway I'm posting the ALL OVER answer to configuring XFree86 on Solaris
Intel:> Get the Sun Porting Kit. Period. Do NOT install XFree86 manually
and try to configure it and goes nuts like me:>

Here's the link:
http://soldc.sun.com/developer/support/driver/tools/video/video-index.html

I started with a clean install of Solaris 8 Intel Platform edition, followed
the one-page Installation instruction document, then was able to configure
my video via Sun's kdmconfig utility.

Basically this porting kit installs the XFree86 drivers in such a way as
they appear as choices in Sun's own video configuration utility. Easy as
pie and I am now seeing beautiful colors:>

Yipppeeeeee!!!!!!!!!

I'm only posting so that when some poor fool tries to follow my path.....
they can search the web and pull this post up! Hope it helps someone!
