Hello, I feel terrible posting such a lame question but I have been text-only since I installed FreeBSD 4.3 (now on 4.5) OS on my box in early February, and I really miss using a GUI but cannot for the life of me (or the lives of all my future offspring)... get XFree86 4.2.0 to work!!
$ XFree86 -version XFree86 Version 4.2.0 / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600) Release Date: 18 January 2002 (If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer than the above date, look for a newer version before reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/)) Build Operating System: FreeBSD 4.4-RELEASE-p1 i386 [ELF] Module Loader present My video card is an ATI All in Wonder 16mb AGP card, but their tech support keeps giving me the loop-around (use the ati driver, use the r128 driver, and so on)... but I think the r128 driver supports DRI whereas the ati driver does not. Yes? Well, when I run "XFree86 -configure" the resulting ~/XF86Config.new file says it doesn't know about my mouse, so I change that line from /dev/mouse to /dev/sysmouse Could someone please tell me what output is most useful (dmesg -a? which lines only? vga module? `startx &> startx_error.log`? etc...) in helping me diagnose my problems and start using KDE?? I will repost it here in the hopes of getting things running in X. Please please please PLEASE PLEEEEASE?? ;-) My monitor's specs are supposedly hscan 30-85kHz, vscan 50-160kHz, optimal setting is "1024x768 @ 85 Hz." -- Peter Leftwich President & Founder Video2Video Services Box 13692, La Jolla, CA, 92039 USA +1-413-403-9555 _______________________________________________ Newbie mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
