What happens if you do the following as root:   'service xfs restart'    .....without the quotes of course.   This should restart your font server.  If not do a chkconfig --list to see if it is set to on in the appropriate run levels. From: David Eaton [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] I was logged in as root, and from Konqueror I right-clicked on an .rpm file and selected ..open with Package Manager (I think).  My system locked up and since then I can't start Xwindows.  Everything had been running great, I haven't had a problem like this before.  I'm really hoping someone has an idea, else I guess it's  re-install time. Red Hat Linux 7.2, standard workstation installation from CD, Kernel 2.4.9-31
