It is RedHat 7.1,
I selected Yes to overwrite files when upgradeing to version 4.2.0. Should I reinstall KDE from the rpm? I am SO close now.
I have Linux running PERFECTLY on my "server" and can ping both the internet and the other systems in the house. Now if I can get MASQ to work I'll have a working network and can start learning about DNS, FTP servers, Apache Web server etc. That's not a topic for this forum, but just sharing the excitment.
Anyway, reinstall KDE? How?
Thanks again,
Michael

But then I couldn't log into my Michael account, only as root.Is Yr configuration based on the SuSE distro ?The login window looks like a KDE window, but with a pixely background. Then, once I login as root, I get a screen with a small window in the upper left that says xms, and 4 buttons (including a shutdown one), a terminal window in the middle, and a console log window in the lower right. This may be a familiar interface to most, but new to me. What is it and how to I get KDE to launch?
Second, how do I check what video card and monitor I selected during setup. I don't remember and want to write them down for future reference.
Thanks for all the help

Seen that in the past.
Then start Yast, set system administration, login configuration, choose ASCII if Yr start is from graphical screen and not from bash but Yu want bash startx (DOS command equivalent).
then back to system administartion and then configure susewm and choose kde as default.Otherwise, edit Yr /etc/rc.config and manually set Yr DEFAULT_WINDOW_MANAGER=kde
