Hi, sorry if this message arrives twice, I don't think it went through the first time.
Anyway. I have a fresh install of Debian Potato 2.2.19pre17 from ISO Disc 1. I
installed it with an XFree86 3.x core install, and then downloaded the 4.2.0 binaries
for GLIBC 2.2. I installed the binaries with Xinstall.sh, but when I ran xinit, I got
an error about the GLIBC version. So, I installed libc6 v2.5, and it ran (sort of). It
complained that there were "no screens found". So I ran XF86Config (the 4.x version
came up), and made a config file which should have been appropriate (I used the
settings that worked from my 3.x config.) But now, when I run xinit, I get the
following error:

"Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting"

When I install Debian with NO xf86 at all, and run the Xinstall.sh, when I type
"xinit", it just says "command not found", like it wasn't installed, even though, the
new XF86Config is now available when I do that.

When I compile v4.2.0 from source, nothing seems to happen at all after it compiles
and installs. If I have XF86 v3.x installed, it stays that way. If no X is installed,
nothing shows up at all, xinit still doens't work.

I read that removing glide_drv.o would help, but that isn't even in my system at all,
so that didn't help.

My system is as follows:
Kernel v2.2.19pre17
Debian Potato 2.2 Distro
3Dfx VooDoo 3 2000 PCI Video Card
AMD Duron CPU
256 MB RAM

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks :)
