[Newbie]Server must be suid root

When I try to start xserver as a user, I get an error--"server must be suid root".  I can run it just fine as "root".  Somehow, my configuration is not correct.  And I don't know where to make the change.   I use FreeBSD 4.5 .  Any ideas?
