i recently upgraded to the latest xfree86 version 4.2 and now x doesnt load.
i am running
red hat 7.1
it seems that it cant find the default font, which is set to
unix/:7100
so i changed the default font path to
/usr/X11R86/lib/modules/fonts/
and it didnt work so i tried
/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc
and that didnt work either. i also tried
/usr/X11R86/lib/X11/fonts/misc
but with no sucess. i get caught signal 11 with all these paths!
i run the XF86Config program to configure x and i get the testing window to open, to show that x will work with my settings but when i goto start x it just doesnt load.
this is really pissing me off, i have alot of uni work to do and have to log into a shitty telnet shell under windows.
if anyone can help me solve my problem it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Simon Halcrow
