I had 4.1.0 running on RH7.2 with KDE 2.2.2. Upgraded X to 4.2.0 by
following installation instructions. Now, in runlevel 5, by default twm
desktop comes up. If I boot in runlevel 3 and then start X manually with
'startx', KDE starts up properly.
I have spent hours and days searching thru documentation and list archives
but cannot find a solution. My /etc/X11/xinit/Xclients file has an 'exec
startkde' but I found this file does not get executed at all, nor does the
xinitrc in the same directory.
And there is a file called /etc/X11/prefdm which executes /usr/bin/kdm and I
think that is what is happening. If I replace the /usr/bin/kdm in this file
with /usr/bin/startkde it goes into some loop with an error saying "Id.
Respawning ... please wait for five minutes'.
How do get kde to startup by default in runlevel 5? If anybody knows the
solution or has a clue, please help me.

Will appreciate any kind of help.
