If this were windows, I'd agree with you - but it's not. Generally, there is no need to re-install the entire OS, except in the case of filesystem or hardware damage/destruction. Reinstalling a program might sometimes be necessary, but usually just if the default config got munged, or if it was built with the wrong options.
