your video driver is set up wrong, it would help if you told us what release your using, then I could talk you through it, If you are using redhat, type Xconfigurator, select your video card, your "correct" video memory size, and start with an 8 bit color depth, select a conservative resolution, if that gets your video,,, do it over again, and work your way up..that should fix the problem good luck,, next time you post,, it is helpful to provide us with your release, and hardware configuration
