first at all thanks a lot for answering,
was looking at my poit in etc/X11/X, and it looks like this here :

lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           31 Aug 25 22:03 /etc/X11/X -> 
../../usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_Mach64*

I don't know, which linux-distro you are using, but my hope was, that I can 
do such jobs with a mandrake-tool, but doesn't know, which tool this job can 
do.
anyway - my thought (or idea) was, that I have to do a new setup, but doing a 
xf86config does not the trick.

which steps I have to do ? can you shed some light on this ?

maybe, this is a very simple question, but havn't done this before.
