Hi, I has been trying to install Mandrake Linux 8.2 for quite a while, but could not get XFree86 to work. The installer freezes every time when it comes to test the video mode.
I installed it in expert mode to skip the test; upon startx, the monitor switches to 640x480 85Hz mode and goes completely black. (However, little later I can hear some music, from which I deduce that apart from video, XFree86 is starting OK.) Afterwards I cannot do anything but Ctrl-Alt-BckSp and Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot. Card is Trident TGUI9680, detected well; monitor Daytek DT 1531D - detected as generic, which I replaced by the correct model. Anybody has any idea what can be done?
