You are using 3.3.6, you won't find any "vesa" (it's an X 4.x.x driver), no problem 
use SVGA i.e.
the server to use is XF86_SVGA (in /usr/X11R6/bin) it should ( ??? I don't know 
Debian) suffice to
make /etc/X11/X a symlink to that server (assuming Debian uses the same logik as RH)
The advantage of SVGA is that it is accelerated, last time I looked (OK that was long 
ago) vesa
was not
