Also be sure to check that you own your entire home directory (ie, /home/username). I've had some instances where I accidentally chown'd the directory to root and couldn't access my kde prefs properly.
I think you can install both of them and just change the startup command in .xinitrc, but I've never tried.On a side note, are there any tutorials that you know that would enable me to install Gnome and have the choice of starting Gnome or KDE?

PS - I've been futzing around with getting DVD playback to work. There's a little tutorial on the onlamp site, but I haven't had much luck. Let me know if you have any luck with it.
