There are plenty of search engines for list archives, but not many centralized ones (aside from groups.yahoo.com, where plenty of listgroups are archived). However, the second best after that is the search on Usenet and that is very much available on groups.google.com and yes, that is probably the best source of my information (probably better than google.com itself).
