I am not sure whether xf86Config writes its file in the right directory. Startx (if 
you don't
specify otherwise on the command line) looks at /etc/X11/XF86Config resp. 
XF86Config-4...
I don't know about RH 8.0 but wit RH 7.x Xconfigurator (not sure about the cap...) did 
a decent
job of generating a working config. XFree86 -configure can also be used...
