 Describe what your screen looks like in the other 2 resolutions
("800x600" "1024x768").

IIRC, CTRL-ALT-"+" toggles among the define 'Modes' in the
default 'depth' (8 bit).

 Did XF86Config define your video card and monitor?
What number did you select for your video card
and what parameters did you select for your monitor?
