This is a good question and an interesting issue. If you have control
of your email account at your domain, you have a few options. If not
(i.e. you're using an Earthlink individual account), you're kind of
stuck.
1) Consider using a role account. For example, you could set up
accounts that look like:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
These have the benefit of being somewhat self-explanatory to the
recipients, and have the other benefit of being potentially managed
by more than one person (e.g. the 4 people that make up your PR
office, or the executive directors administrative assistant and the
development person).
2) Consider using a fictitious person account. This can be helpful
for management purposes (it can be managed by more than one person on
your staff) and has the benefit of being more "personal". A lot of
times people are going to respond more positively to
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" than "[EMAIL PROTECTED]," even if
"Kay" is 4 different people.
If you're running a long campaign, having one email address
associated with the campaign or action is far easier to administer
than the multiple addresses of staff who happen to work on the
campaign (whether it be fundraising or get out the vote). The trick
is going to be deciding whether or not you want to project a
corporate or personal touch, and then developing email account
management policies to ensure that your strategy is implemented
consistently.
