It sounds as if you can get to the Thank You letters in layout mode
in the paymnts._102 file. Insert the cursor where you want the merge
field to go. Select the menu item Insert>merge field.
At this point you will see a dialog box with a list of fields. At the
top of the box it will say Current File, meaning you are looking at
the list of fields in the Payments file. Select this item and it
becomes a pull-down menu with the names of all the relationships to
the payments file. This is how you get to fields in other files.
Pull this menu down to select the item Names, and you will see a list
of the fields in the Names file that you can insert in your letter.
