Mailing lists are great, but I thought there might be some interest in an online forum. So I started a yahoo group for Openstreetmap.
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/openstreetmap/ This will provide a place for open discussion of any aspect of the openstreetmap project. The only moderation is an initial screening of posts in order to prevent spammers from posting.
