I realise that it's not OK to copy any data from existing maps under copyright. However, if one is driving around with a GPS, is it OK to use them to make sure one has covered all the roads in an area? Or is that still indirectly deriving data?
In other words, I want to use my AA road atlas to make sure I hit every road, ticking off the roads as I go, noting down the names from the signs (not the atlas) and using the GPS tracks I make as the route I upload to OSM. I would expect this to be a FAQ, but I can't see any info on it on the wiki or legal pages...
