Unfortunately you're looking at the "wrong" zoom level. [EMAIL PROTECTED] currently only auto-renders zoom 12-17. As we are in a transition phase in lowzoom methods all z12 tiles must be present for the "captionless" layer for lowzoom (z8?-11) to work. The alternative is to wait for next Wednesday when the mapnik db gets synced up to the osm db and mapnik starts updating all tiles as you look at them.
