The fact that many items are not rendered is not a bug. There is only room on the default map render for some of the POI icons and other features. OSM is not about displaying every feature on its own mapping. OSM is a repository for open and free geographical data. Its up to others and other projects to produce nice renderings using OSM data. So in short, don't expect to see lots of new icons appearing on the mapnik or Osmarender layers at www.openstreetmap.org any time soon.
