Hi,

I am working on a diploma thesis at Vienna University of Technology, examining
how to best offer a campus map of our university campus. This map would include
indoor floor plans, room numbers and the people whose office is in that room.
The map would typically be used by students searching for a room or person they
need to find, and by teachers or organizations who can link to the map to show
where they are on campus.

1.) Can the OpenStreetMap maps be used as a layer in other maps?
E.g. can I include OpenStreetMap as the base layer of my map? What license
applies to the OpenStreetMap data? What formats (e.g. WMS, WFS...) are used to
make the OpenStreetMap data accessible for such usage?

2.) Can the OpenStreetMap software be used for other mapping projects?
Here, I am talking about the wiki-like map editor, the XML data schema, the
storage solution..., not about the geodata itself. Can this software be used
for other projects as well? If yes, what license applies to it? I am asking
because the wiki-like editing approach would suit a campus map as well - every
student could add features to the map as he or she wishes.

I am very interested to learn more about OpenStreetMap. Thank you for your help,
with kind regards,

Johannes
