So there is this wide river. It has been mostly mapped with the riverbank tag and a centerline has been drawn and tagged as the actual river. There is also a dam on the river. On the upriver side of the dam a lake has formed. It was traced and given the natural=water tag. Further "upriver" (uplake?) the original river enters into the lake. Should the way of the river be drawn all the way through the lake, through the dam, and be connected with the piece below the dam?
I assume it should, but if so, should the section of the river that is actually lake not be named? Sounds strange, but otherwise you'd have both the name of the river and the name of the lake showing up in the render in the same place . If so, when does the river become the lake? (Yes, I know that is a judgment call.) Please share any advice, current practices, or know consensus. Preliminary work has been done here: < http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=36.4728&lon=127.4946&zoom=14&layers=0B00FTF><http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=36.4728&lon=127.4946&zoom=14&layers=0B00FTF> I just haven't named the upriver portion or connected it to the part below the dam, yet. Be aware that adding a node to the lake will put you over the 2000 nodes added limit. ---- On a side note, maybe JOSM should keep track of the nodes added during a session and let you know if the current node puts you over the 2000 limit or not. It is a bummer to be adding things, touch a lake or riverside for correction and then only find out later when you try to upload that you have exceeded the limit. If JOSM warned you, you could always back up one edit, upload, and then continue. Thanks a bunch. Robert "We should give meaning to life, not wait for life to give to give us meaning. " ~ unknown ---
