All the cycling maps I use for the UK (for instance the official Sustrans maps, 
or the cycling route books by Nick Cotton) include roads like motorways, for 
the reasons given. It would be very odd (and I think, unhelpful) if you were to 
cycle along a cyclepath underneath a motorway and such a distinctive landmark 
was not included. I often use such landmarks for navigating.

But you are right, that there has to be a way to render them so that they do 
not distract from the actual cycling routes.
