AJ, Some thoughts about tagging the features you mention...
So you've already visited the wiki pages that discuss waste, trash, garbage, etc. and I think you've already implemented the correct solution. That is, to tag the same point with two tags (amenity=recycling; amentity=waste_basket). WRT the ad hoc bridge... I scarcely think the bridge is worth mentioning since is it much less permanent than the cut through to the parking lot and the access it provides to the Capital Crescent Trail. For this reason, I think the more appopriate tag starts with highway=path with perhaps some other qualifiers added (e.g. foot=yes, bicycle=yes). http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dpath HTH, SEJ -----Original Message----- From: "Al Haraka" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 23, 2009 10:10pm To: [email protected] Subject: [OSM-newbies] Two Questions Hello All, I am very new to OSM. I attended my first mapping party in my area, and now I am trying to finish uploading some of the data from my traces. I only have a couple of waypoints, because I am slow like that. Now I am tagging my points on Potlatch and trying to learn for myself. Unfortunately, I have one situation I assume must be common (and I am shameless n00b). The other is kind of bizarre. When I tagged a node that is a stand holding a garbage pale and a recycling bin (I am not sure if this is specific to the US, or even Maryland area). To clarify, they are basically two bins right next to each other held together by the same wooden post. AFAIK, they are the same item really. Do I create a relation and have different amentiy items (waste_basket and recycling) or do I add multiple tags to the same node (amenity recycling;waste_basket)? I have done the latter so far, because the wiki implies, at least to me, amenities are for much bigger fish in need of frying. Later in the day, I was on a trail and there was a small little ditch running along the side of this segment of the trail. Someone had made an ad hoc bridge to cross the ditch and allow people to utilize a little clearing onto a local street. How would I tag that? It is certainly not a bridge in the formal sense, and I am not sure what else I could tag it is. I thought some creative minds on the list could enlighten. That is all I got for now. Thanks in advance guys.
