If Potlatch is "your editor", wouldn't this entail uploading the trace/waypoints to OSM anyway? And in any case, in a collaborative project like OSM, there is always a "better" solution which requires more effort. It's good to split tasks down into smaller pieces, so in this case, one person uploads a waypoint, and another converts it into something useful. Just saying.
