I'm working on a small GPX related command-line app that allows a bounding
box to be specified as one of it's arguments.

I've looked around and haven't really noticed a standardized order of
writing down the points. Right now I'm using.

lat1 lat2 lon1 lon2
but perhaps
lat1 lon1 lat2 lon2
is preferred? Or...
lon1 lat1 lon2 lat2?

Maybe there's 2 or 3 common orderings and they have specific names so you
know which you're dealing with?

Also, as it stands I'm only using a rectangular bounds since it's easy to
check if a point is inside it with a simple lat1 <= newpoint <= lat2
but I should really use a better way of checking so that skewed boxes or
arbitrary shapes could be used. Does anyone know where I could find an
example of how to do that? There's probably a library that does this
already somewhere.

Thanks,
-Don.
