> You might ask why such a task is possible when it is not recommended. > (I might ask that as well) I don't know. ;-) For areas where there aren't that many roads and you are at first travelling great distances it's quite handy to have a gpx to osm convert function, because tracing some hundred miles from gpx track *is* tedious. So in my experience the only way to sensibly use the gpx->OSM way feature is to a) preprocess the GPX (remove stops, remove obvious junk, basically keeping only the stretch of road you're really interested in) b) convert to OSM Way c) *simplify* the way in JOSM before uploading.
