Android is Linux under the hood too. It may be less open than Maemo
but it's way more open than iPhone's walled garden.

And don't count non-Android Linux phones out quite yet, the
Moblin-Maemo merger brings Intel & Nokia together under the MeeGo
label.

For mapping, we'd only want to use real clear-sky GPS fix, after the
AGPS assisted lock on the satellites. The cell-tower fix that is used
for the A assist is available indoors makes usable for E911
approximate locations as well as usually a better initial
approximation for the GPS's Kalman filter fix algorithm than
last-seen-spot.
