Try running it from a command prompt, then you can see what the errors
are, plus copy and paste any that are relevant.
Just testing it now (on Windows), this command works for me (running it
from the directory Osmosis was unzipped into):
bin\osmosis --read-xml scotland.osm.bz2 --bounding-box left=-3.4475
top=56.0304 right=-3.3373 bottom=55.9697 --write-xml forth.osm
It does give a couple of "not recognised" errors, but they don't seem to
affect it, the osm file is output fine.
