Once you click on Permalink, the URL will encode the view you were looking at. The lat and lon in the URL is the latitude and longitude of the centre of the view. If you edit the permalink and change lat to mlat and lon to mlon you will get a marker at the centre of the view. You can send the edited permalink to your friend, and they will see the marker. Here's a little more detail: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Marker#Adding_a_Marker I have proposed a feature like this (adding a 'markerlink' in the same way as a 'permalink') but it's not always possible to implement everything, or it takes some time or manpower that is not available. If we had this feature I think it would be useful for exactly your situation.
