You'll need to setup both computers so that they have their own ip address. If I were to do this with two computers that have no internet connection I would make the desktop 10.0.0.1 and the laptop would be 10.0.0.2. You can assign this in RedHat by typing 'setup' as root and choosing 'Network Setup.'
