        If you're using kde you can associate key combinations with applications in 
the menu editor.  I don't know about gnome.  You can also use x-bindkeys 
which is not tied to any window manager, which is pretty cool since it can 
pick up any keys, including extra little novelty ones at the top of your 
snazzy keyboard.
