Finally, I've derived the simplistic wanton satisfaction that comes of a
casual interview of "The Return of the King" trailer - with sound.

I stumbled through several kernel compiles, a few dozen RPMs, learned rpm
and modprobe, drank a little too much wine, installed apt-get, and
probably submitted over 50 different google queries. When I "found"
mplayer, of course I had heard of it before, I knew I was near the end,
and, behold, your cluless end-user has managed to modify his box.

It was a long, digressive trail, but no, I would not trade this experience
for the icky wizardy windows version. There is not that same sense of
satisfaction or sense of power and purview that derives from newly
acquired knowledge or method.

Just some late, blithe musings from a natural philosophy nerd
--without-friends.
