What version of gaim are you using? The most recent one (0.75) includes the MSN plugin. In older versions, you had to set it up, but that doesn't matter much now cause as of Oct 15, MSN changed a bunch of stuff with their service and gaim had to be modified to use it still. So unless you are using 0.71 or greater, you cannot connect anyway.
