First of all, building it from the sources yourself is the hardest way to install something, unless maybe you have every *-devel rpm that exists installed on your system, and even then...it can be a pain (or others might say, a good learning experience). to answer the above question, you can still run a gnome application under KDE, you just need the gnome libraries installed. But let's try this an easier way first: Please set up urpmi[1] and then as root type urpmi scite This just worked for me on Mandrake 9.1. It will be by far the easiest way to install this. Read on for more general advice on installing stuff. If for some strange reason it doesn't work (maybe for some other package) then you can try and find an rpm on the web. I just did a search on speakeasy.rpmfind.net for scite and it led me to this page: http://speakeasy.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=scite&submit=Search+... Low and behold, your choice of Mandrake rpms. Some people don't trust random rpms found on the web like this, but I've never had a problem. If you end up having to go this route, still use urpmi to install it urpmi scite-1.54-1mdk.i586.rpm and it will (hopefully) download any dependencies you need. If it can't find the dependencies, you can look for those on rpmfind.net too.
