http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/56/33226.html The next thing you should be asking about is trojans and local exploits. Trojans are a bigger problem than viruses on Linux. (The general media generally ignores the difference between viruses and trojan horses. Some recent viruses were closer to trojan horses.) The best answer to them is to not run any services you don't need. Most default Linux installs are pretty good about this. I'll let someone else take the time to explain how to make sure your system is locked down. Another problem is local exploits--attacks by users of your system. No system is perfect. Make sure you keep your system up to date. One of the real differences between Linux and MS here is that Linux fesses up and releases patches very quickly. MS hides the problem until they're good and ready. This protects MS from opportunistic attackers. The largest part of the attacker are "script kiddies", so called because they have no real skill themselves. Hiding the problem gives no protection from truly knowledgeable and determined attackers. The script kiddies are eventually going to find out about the problem anyway, so the only real answer is to keep your system fully patched. -- Stuart Jansen <[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://buscaluz.org/ AIM:StuartMJansen> Who is John Galt?
