What distribution are you using?  Do you use KDE or GNOME?

If you use GNOME on Fedora Core 2 you can see what fonts are installed
by opening a file browser (nautilus) window (like the Computer icon on
the desktop) then click on file -> Open Location... and type fonts:///
into the dialog box.

To add fonts, the easiest way is to make a folder called .fonts (don't
forget the . ) in your home directory and put your fonts there.  You
could also run 'yum search font' and see what font packages are
available.
