Hi all,
I have been a linux fan for a while. I run debian stable (sarge) and my
sound stopped working. I tried searching google, and tried what that gave
me, but to no avail. I even rebooted.

I don't remember installing any new sound libs (it would have been via
apt-get). I did install alsa-base and alsa-utils and then later alsa-oss to
see if that would just make it work. I also tried deleting my .xmms
directory. Unfortunately, none of these worked.

lsmod shows soundcore as loaded but not used by anything.

At startup it said that alsa wasn't loaded but that it tried to load it.
All this started happening after I installed mplayer to try to watch byutv
streams.

Any help would be appreciated.
