SLOBODAN MILOSEVIC REMAINS CHAIRMAN OF SERBIAN SOCIALIST PARTY

Deputy Chairman of the Socialist Party of Serbia Ivica Dacic announced in a newspaper interview on Monday that former Yugoslavian president Slobodan Milosevic, who is currently in prison at The Hague Tribunal, would remain as the party's chairman.
Dacic denied reports that Milosevic's wife, Mira Markovic, would take over the party reins. According to him, the SPS is still the strongest party, which could "very easily take power" at the next elections. This, according to Milosevic's deputy, is causing panic among his opponents, because the current party in power, the Democratic Opposition of Serbia, is responsible for such stupidity.
Meanwhile, the Belgrade press has reported that Milosevic's wife is intending to take complete control of the SPS to elect her as chairman at an extraordinary conference. Slobodan Milosevic allegedly agreed to this step when his wife visited in prison.
