Forwarded with permission of Peter Children.
It is in response to the June issue of Vanity Fair Magazine, now on
newsstands. The letter confirms that our fighting GI's and our pilots were
abused for Clinton's political ambitions. For more on O'Grady, please read
my "Behind Enemy Lines: Fact or Fiction." Stella

Dear
Sir/Madame
First
let me tell you how much I love your magazine; it is fresh and contemporary with
great writers. I always look forward to its arrival and I also share it with my
friends.
There
is however one particular aspect of your publication that disturbs me greatly;
that is the often presence of Christiane Amanpour in your magazine. Just a few
short years ago I had the opportunity to sit and visit with retired air force
pilot Captain Scott O’Grady; the pilot who was shot down over Bosnia and
allegedly hid in the woods for five days until he was rescued. At this point I
would like to explain that I am Serbian and was particularly interested in
visiting with O’Grady because of that fact. He was visiting our community on a
tour to promote his recently written
book.
O’Grady
had first given a speech that evening to one of our local service clubs, after
which he signed autographs for those who bought his book; it was after all that
and close to midnight when the two of us finally sat down for what turned out to
be a two hour visit. I will never forget the visit and the things he reiterated
to me. The first thing I said to him was this; “Captain, if the Serbians had
found you, I am certain they would not have harmed you, for to have done so
would have only verified what the West was saying about them; things that were
not true.” He replied, “Peter, our commanding officer had advised us that we had
no friends on the ground, not the Serbs, not the Croatians, and not the Bosnian
Muslims.” “Probably sound advice,” I replied given the fact that you were
dropping bombs at the
time.
O’Grady
then said something that in part shocked me. I say in part because I
already knew what he said; what shocked me was the fact that he said it. “We
received advanced intelligence communications to our base of operation from the
C.I.A. telling us that the Muslims themselves blew up the marketplace square
killing their own people, and that Christiane Amanpour is a Muslim and was
distorting the news.” Of course the Serbians knew that the bomb that went
off in the marketplace that day was set off by the Muslims, and we also knew
that Amanpour was lying about events that took
place.
Towards
the end of our conversation I asked him why, if knew all this to be true, just
why he did not include that information in the speech he gave earlier that very
evening to this group of about 300 businessmen. His answer was; “My job was just
to fly the plane.” “In other words,” I said, “you believe it’s perfectly alright
for the world to believe that the Serbian people are guilty of something you
know not to be true?” He just shrugged his
shoulders.
There
is other evidence that Amapour distorted the news, the world knew she was
married to the Assistant Secretary of State and as a result this allowed her
entry gave and her precedence that otherwise would have been
denied.
I
urge you not to besmirch your fine publication with people of her
ilk.
Respectfully
Peter
