Moscow hostage crisis
To: CNN new agencey
This is a petition to the CNN news network regarding the current hostage crisis in Moscow. The signers of this
petition are concerned about the terminology used by CNN in it's coverage of the situation. We regret the fact that
of all terms used for the criminals threatening to murder 800 people, the word "terrorist" is never mentioned. We
hear them described as "rebels", "hostage takers", "Chechen militants", "guerrillas" but never terrorists. This is
especially saddening since of all forms of terrorism, hostage-taking is probably the one that most perfectly fits the
definition of the term.
We ask CNN to reconsider its position and use the appropriate term for the terrorists who are holding innocent
people hostage.
