A Message from Rod

I am running for governor to give our government back to the people of Illinois, to create opportunity and a better life for everyone: for the farmer who grows our crops; for the worker who builds our cars; for the parents who save for college; for the nurse who cares for the ill.

When my father came to this country, he didn’t have a penny in his pocket.  He didn’t speak a word of English.  But he had values, American values.

He had values like hard work, faith, a commitment to family and a belief that tomorrow will always be a better day.  I’m running for governor to build that better day, for the hard working people all across Illinois.

We must create opportunity for every part of Illinois. North and south, east and west, rural Illinois, suburban Illinois, from the big cities to the small towns, we want the same things.  We want opportunity.  We want the opportunity to have good jobs with good benefits and wages and good schools.

We want prescription drugs for our seniors, all our seniors.  I have an honest plan that covers all seniors in need for all medicines doctors prescribe.

We want more teachers in our classrooms.  The leaders of tomorrow need to be better paid, better trained, and better supported instructors.  We need to reduce class sizes, and put an emphasis on reading.  Hubert Humphrey said you can judge the quality of a society by how it treats those in the dawn of life…its children.  My education plan stresses early childhood learning, to ensure that no child falls behind.

After a generation of Republican control, our state government is defined by corruption, mismanagement and lost opportunities.  I will never accept failure as a way of life.  I’m not running for Governor to manage a state of decline. I will never allow a tough problem to become an excuse for inaction and I will never give up on believing we can make things better all across our state.

Not all of our state has that opportunity, we have to do better.  As a Democrat, I believe in bringing equality of opportunity to everybody.  I think we should be proactive, we should provide opportunity for people who are left behind through no fault of their own.

I am running for governor to make that dream real, for every family and for every kid that dreams of a better life.  It’s people that matter, it’s all about people.
