Tomorrow, March 24, 05 marks the 6th anniversary of the start of the U.S. led war on Yugoslavia.
Below is a media release notice of a wreath laying ceremony in Toronto in remembrance of the thousands of victims of the brutal U.S./NATO bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999 and the devastation of the country, which has included the use of depleted uranium.
As you know, David Orchard, with Marjaleena Repo and others founded the "Ad-Hoc Committee to Stop Canada's Participation in the War on Yugoslavia". Some of the active and high profile people to join them in speaking out against the war were James Bissett, Michel Chossudovsky, Ursula Franklin, Rosalie Bertell, Senator Doug Roche, Roland Keith, David Jacobs and Michael Mandel. You can find a few of David's articles on this issue on his site: www.davidorchard.com, and Marjaleena's "Media and the demonization of Serbs", on http://www.counterpunch.org/ and other internet sites.
I will attend this memorial tomorrow to relay a message from David who is presently in Quebec and cannot be there in person.
I hope that you can attend, or take time to remember this unwarranted tragedy six years ago in Yugoslavia.
Sincerely,
Grant Orchard

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Remember Kosovo!
WREATH LAYING CEREMONY
Toronto: The members of Association of Serbian Women joined by
others from the Canadian Serbian community, are going to mark
the MEMORIAL
DAY MARCH 24, with WREATH LAYING
at the CENOTAPH at the Old City hall.
We will gather at 1.30 p.m. and after few short speeches and a
prayer we will observe a moment of silence, at 2 p.m., the exact time when
the NATO
bombing of Yugoslavia began , six years ago.
We hope that our presence will remind our fellow Canadians
of the tragedy that has befallen the people of Yugoslavia and of the
many innocent victims of NATO aggression.
The invitation to join us and honour the victims of this illegal and
unjust war is going to all peace groups and peace loving Canadians.
We may forgive but we should never forget in an effort to prevent the
recurrence of these crimes.
With sadness that the lessons have not been learnt, we reach out in our
pain to the thousands of innocent victims of all other wars waged in the
name
of democracy!
