Head
of OSCE Head of Kosovo Mission offers support to new Prime Minister
PRISTINA, Ambassador Fieschi congratulated
the new prime Minister saying: Your election will be a positive step forward in
ensuring a secure future for Kosovo and all its
inhabitants. He pledged to continue the good
co-operation between the OSCE Mission and the Provisional Government which has
been built up including legislative and capacity building support as the
institutions of self-government have taken on greater
responsibilities. To further advance these ties,
Ambassador Fieschi offered assistance in four concrete areas, which are
considered crucial by the OSCE Mission, and need to be addressed by the
Government. These areas include:
Implementation of legislation to
consolidate the rule of law;
Effective local governance reform
to ensure accountability and transparency in the democratic
process;
Regional
dialogue, to foster common opportunities and challenges;
and
Institutionalizing human rights, to
guarantee human rights obligations by the Government. Ambassador
Fieschi said
that Prime Minister Kosumi expressed hope that a constructive and co-operative
relationship on the Standards process would continue. He also stressed that this
was an
important time for the people of Kosovo as the public response would also
influence the future of Kosovo. It is important that the
responsible government authorities are provided with the tools to improve the
situation and promote the development of institutions, said Ambassador
Fieschi. Todays visit and that last Friday
by the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupelj, are
highly visible signs of the sustained efforts of the OSCE to encourage
democratic developments in Kosovos institutions to address the needs of the
people of Kosovo.
