British Expert: Kai Eide under Pressure to "Decorate" Report on Kosovo and
Metohija

London. British expert Jonathan Eyal of the British Royal Institute of
Defense Studies said that some permanent members of the UN Security Council
put pressure on Kai Eide, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's special envoy,
to make him "decorate" the report on Kosovo and Metohija, Serbian TV RTS
reported. They aim at starting talks on Kosovo statute by the end of the
year, said Eyal, an expert on Balkan studies. In his words, the political
pressure over the start of talks on the statute of Kosovo and Metohija has
become "intolerable". It is an open secret that Kai Eide thinks that Kosovo
has not achieved a significant progress in the fulfilment of standards,
especially the ones related to the Serbian minority and the other ones.
Kai Eide is expected to hand the report to Kofi Annan on October 20.
